Literacy Essentials - Supporting Read to Lead Initiative

EVENT # 134-13

The Literacy Essentials Workshops were developed to help increase student literacy achievement and provide consistency in instruction within schools and districts.  The content is based on the five components of reading as defined by the National Reading Panel and reaffirmed by the Wisconsin Read to Lead Initiative.  Both the National Reading Panel and the Read to Lead Task Force recommend teachers learn evidence-based results-oriented strategies in the areas of:  phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

These workshops incorporate the best of comprehensive literacy, brain-based learning, data to inform teaching, current research on best practices in teaching and alignment with the Common Core Standards.  They are designed to give teachers both "the why and the how" with an emphasis on practical application.  Teachers and administrators will have the opportunity for grade level and cross-grade level discussions.
